ABU DHABI TOUR FAN ZONE TO OPEN TOMORROW AT NATION TOWERS

From 14 to 24 October the luxury complex near the southern end of the Corniche will be the home of the Abu Dhabi Tour – with cycling-related activities and the trophy display among many others events.

Abu Dhabi, 13 October 2016 – With just a week to the start of the Abu Dhabi Tour, the four-stage cycling race, the Nation Towers complex is getting ready. From tomorrow, 14 October to Monday 24, the Abu Dhabi Tour’s official Fan Zone will be open every day, Wednesday to Sunday from 12pm to 8pm and Thursday to Saturday 12pm to 11pm.

The activities will be multiple and include an area dedicated to the kids, hosted in the Nation Towers Galleria, where some days will hold hour-long bike classes, an educational activity that has already featured in several schools recently. At Nation Towers, as well as shopping, fans can visit all the Abu Dhabi Tour’s Sponsor’s booths and the official information point omega replica watches and have your photograph taken with the gleaming Abu Dhabi Tour Trophy. The immersive cycling atmosphere will be perfect for children and adults with special events to be revealed day by day.

In addition to the Fan Zone, from Monday 17 October, media, riders and some race officials will be hosted at the Hotel St. Regis. The hotel is part of the Nation Towers complex, which also includes loft apartments, office space, retail, cinemas, recreational amenities, a beach club and ample parking for residents and visitors. Nation Towers will be the main venue for the preliminary operations and official press conferences and the hotel will host the UCI Cycling Gala, where, on the evening of Tuesday 18th October, the Tour’s teams and riders will be honoured.

Nation Towers will also be the proud sponsor of the Abu Dhabi Tour’s second stage, 115km through the Emirates capital. On 21 October the peloton will travel towards the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Yas Island, through Khalifa City, with the finish line on the Abu Dhabi Corniche – it’s a superb stage featuring the UAE capital city’s main landmarks.

Kids Area The Kids’ Area, part of the Fan Zone, will host hour-long bike classes on Friday 14th, Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd from 4pm to 8pm. This educational omega replica watches activity is to familiarise students with the history of the bicycle, the benefits of cycling and safety on the road. In the previous weeks the Abu Dhabi Tour’s educational staff have been welcomed in several schools in Abu Dhabi to showcase this project. Now the same program takes place three times in the ADT Kids’ Area at Nation Towers Galleria.

At the end of each class - at the Fan Zone as well in the schools - all the students will be invited to create a cycling-related painting or drawing. All their artwork will be displayed in the Kids’ Area at the Final Stage, each with a number corresponding to an invitation card given to the kids, who, with their parents, will be encouraged to attend the Abu Dhabi Tour’s final stage and closing event on 23 October. There they will be able to enter a raffle to win a child’s bike.

Abu Dhabi Challenge, final qualification day – 18 October Tuesday 18 October is the third and final qualifying day of the ADT Challenge. The Yas Marina Circuit will once again host the popular competition to find the fastest male and female riders in Abu Dhabi around a single lap of the 5.5km Yas Marina Circuit. The three fastest men and women will win custom trophies, official Abu Dhabi Tour technical materials and, just for the two winners, a chance to have an exclusive Abu Dhabi Tour VIP Experience. The official award ceremony will take place on Sunday 23 October, during the final stage of the Abu Dhabi Tour which will be raced entirely within the Yas Marina circuit.

Promo Tour The Abu Dhabi Tour promotional truck’s journey continues around Abu Dhabi and Al Ain to inform, advertise and give away items such as T-shirts with the Abu Dhabi Tour logo. During the four race stages, the Abu Dhabi Tour promotional truck will always be present at the start village and at the finish areas. It will also operate during the StartYas (Sunday 16) and TrainYas (Tuesday 18) sessions, from 6pm to 10pm.

The Abu Dhabi Tour, organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council with the collaboration of RCS Sport, will take place from 20 to 23 October.

#UCICyclingGala The second edition of the UCI Cycling Gala, an event conceived to celebrate the end of the UCI professional road cycling season and its stakeholders, will take place in the evening of October 18th. The event will be produced by Abu Dhabi Sports Council in collaboration with RCS Sport, in the presence of biggest names in professional men’s and women’s road cycling, UCI Management Committee members, representatives of national federations, international media and all the athletes that will take part to the upcoming Abu Dhabi Tour: during the evening the UCI Cycling Gala will also feature the official Team Presentation of the Abu Dhabi Tour. The following day (19 October), race preliminary operations and Top Rider press conference are scheduled.
