Places open to male and female riders to discover who are the fastest cyclists around the 5.5km Yas Marina Formula 1 circuit. Prizes for the best three classified in each category and awards ceremony during Abu Dhabi Tour stage 4.

Abu Dhabi, 6 October 2016 - On Sunday, 9 October, the Yas Marina Formula 1 circuit will host a new event: the Abu Dhabi Tour Challenge. Taking place over a total of three days – 9, 11, and 18 October – the Challenge is dedicated to finding who are the fastest male and female riders in Abu Dhabi around a single lap of the 5.5km Yas Marina circuit. The event format will be run similar to a Formula 1 qualification session, together with professional timekeepers and chip timing.

Qualifying takes place on Sunday 9 and Tuesday 11 October, with a finale timed to take place on Tuesday 18 October – the same day as the 2016 UCI Cycling Gala and the eve of the Abu Dhabi Tour preliminary operations.

The three fastest men and women will win custom trophies, official Abu Dhabi Tour technical materials and, exclusively for the winners, a chance to have an exclusive Abu Dhabi Tour VIP Experience.

The official award ceremony will take place on Sunday 23 October, during the final stage of the Abu Dhabi Tour which will be held entirely within the Yas Marina circuit; here the peloton will complete 26 laps before the final sprint to the podium and the end of the Abu Dhabi Tour.

From October 7 to 23 the Abu Dhabi Tour promotional bus will be active and will stop in 13 strategic points of the city to inform, advertise and give away T-shirts with the Abu Dhabi Tour logo. Until October 19, with a different time schedule every day, the Abu Dhabi Tour promotional bus will visit strategic points, such as the Yas Mall, the Ferrari World or it will park in front of Emirates Palace or on Corniche main square. The Abu Dhabi Tour promotional bus will also travel to the race venues, such as the Madinat Zayed main road (start and finish of the first stage), to the Al Ain Zoo and Jabel Hafeet, or to the Al Wathba and Al Ain cycle paths.

The promotional bus will also operate during TrainYas (Tuesday) and StartYas (Sunday) sessions, at the F1 Yas Marina circuit, on October 9, 11, 16 and 18, from 6-10pm.

During the stages of the Abu Dhabi Tour, the Abu Dhabi Tour promotional bus will constantly be at the start village and at the finish area; with times to be confirmed soon.


The Abu Dhabi Tour, organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council with the collaboration of RCS Sport, will take place from 20 to 23 October. 



The second edition of the UCI Cycling Gala, an event conceived to celebrate the end of the UCI professional road cycling season and its stakeholders, will take place in the evening of October 18th. The event will be produced by Abu Dhabi Sports Council in collaboration with RCS Sport, in the presence of biggest names in professional men’s and women’s road cycling, UCI Management Committee members, representatives of national federations, international media and all the athletes that will take part to the upcoming Abu Dhabi Tour: during the evening the UCI Cycling Gala will also feature the official Team Presentation of the Abu Dhabi Tour. The following day (19 October), race preliminary operations and Top Rider press conference are scheduled.
